Zombie Madness Day 22!

Zombie Madness Day 22!

Yesterday’s match ups were tough ones – and the choices only get harder in the next round. We still have a few left to go in Round Two, though, so let’s get up to speed.

It was Romero vs Romero as DAWN OF THE DEAD (1985) beat Land Of The Dead, while in the Series & Sequels bracket, RESIDENT EVIL won its match up with [REC]3: Genesis.

For today’s matches, we go to the Action/Horror and Comedy brackets. Let’s hit Action/Horror first. These two films both were upset winners in Round One. I didn’t think either one would still be here, so it’s exciting that one of them will advance to Round Three!

#10 STATE OF EMERGENCY vs #15 OSOMBIE

STATE OF EMERGENCY: Chaos consumes a small town when a chemical facility explodes releasing a deadly toxin. Moments after the leak, the town’s residents show signs of mutation, causing the military to quarantine the area leaving any survivors helpless and trapped inside.

Director: Turner Clay

Writer: Turner Clay (screenplay)

Stars: Jay Hayden, Tori White, Scott Lilly

OSOMBIE: The story follows Dusty, a yoga instructor from Colorado, who is on a desperate rescue mission to save her crazy brother Derek, a conspiracy theorist who is convinced Osama bin Laden is still alive, despite having been buried at sea.

Director: John Lyde

Writer: Kurt Hale

Stars: Eve Mauro, Corey Sevier, Jasen Wade

From the Comedy Bracket, we have two films that I expected to win in Round One, and they did – but this is a tough choice for me. One is a favorite of mine from my younger days, and the other really reignited my passion for zombie films when I was invited to a sneak preview of it prior to its wide release.

#2 ZOMBIELAND vs #7 NIGHT OF THE COMET

ZOMBIELAND: A shy student trying to reach his family in Ohio, a gun-toting tough guy trying to find the last Twinkie, and a pair of sisters trying to get to an amusement park join forces to travel across a zombie-filled America.

Director: Ruben Fleischer

Writers: Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick

Stars: Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson

NIGHT OF THE COMET: A comet wipes out most of life on Earth, leaving two Valley Girls to fight the evil types who survive.

Director: Thom Eberhardt

Writer: Thom Eberhardt

Stars: Catherine Mary Stewart, Kelli Maroney, Robert Beltran
